The Military Heroes Flag Project began in early 2024 with the goal of creating a beautiful and respectful display in downtown Harrison Park for our community that honors the men and women that are serving, that have served, and for those who gave their lives for our freedom. Family and friends in our community and beyond are asked to purchase flags for their Military loved ones. Their flags become part of the permanent collection that is to be maintained and displayed by the Town of Denton biannually on Memorial and Veteran’s Days. Solar lanterns are attached to all flag holders to create an honorable display day or night.
The inaugural display took place over the Memorial Day weekend in 2024. Included in that first display and given the highest honor were the casualties of war from our area. These men’s flags were purchased mostly by AMVETS Post 240 along with the Hunt and Sexton families. These 24 men are honored each year during the annual Memorial Day Service. Our honored Veterans were arranged around the edge of the central lawn at Harrison Park, surrounding our Denton area casualties of war, being displayed in the center of the lawn, as true brothers and sisters in arms.
We look forward to the growth of this project and its future displays – creating an event to bring visitors to downtown Denton and Harrison Park during these patriotic holidays, encouraging folks to visit to our local shops and restaurants as well.
Purchase a Garden Flag to Honor Your Veteran
Please note: The Military Heroes Flag Project is a permanent collection. No part of this collection may be removed from Harrison Park. Flags will be kept and maintained by the Town of Denton with the responsibility of displaying each flag annually for Memorial & Veteran’s Day holidays in Harrison Park. All flags, flag holders, lanterns and signage are property of the Town of Denton. The premises are under surveillance and any acts of theft or vandalism will be prosecuted.
If you are interested in purchasing a garden flag to honor your Veteran, please use the form below to order or to be put on the waiting list for a future order. Everyone is encouraged to participate, no matter where you or your Military Hero live/lived. It is the Town’s hope to fill the park with Military Heroes in the future and will continue to place orders for garden flags as minimum order numbers are met.
